Soccer Game Preview: Kaufman vs. Sulphur Springs

A feisty cat fight will be fought as Kaufman take on Sulphur Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

Friday just wasn't the day for Kaufman's offense. They fell just short of Midlothian by a score of 1-0 last Friday. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 161st, while the Panthers are ranked 21st).

Meanwhile, Sulphur Springs had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.1 goals) and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They blew past Paris 5-0. Considering Sulphur Springs has won 14 matches by more than two goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Rowan Faircloth and Natalie Cruz scored all five of Sulphur Springs' goals, bringing their combined season tally to 43 goals.

Sulphur Springs pushed their record up to 16-3-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 35 goals over those five contests. As for Kaufman, their loss dropped their record down to 13-8-1.

Kaufman beat Sulphur Springs by a goal in their previous matchup back in January of 2015, winning 2-1. Does Kaufman have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sulphur Springs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
