League recap: Vanguard's Kelly delivers best pitching performance from past week

6A District 5 league recap: 3/27/13

Darren Kelly was the top pitcher in 6A District 5 this week, leading Vanguard. He struck out 11 batters this week.

Leesburg had a successful week, as it won two total games to lead the league. The Yellowjackets beat the Knights 2-1.

Lake Weir's pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only eight hits and three walks, both of which led the league.

The league boasted three .400 hitters over the past week. Leading the pack was Bryce Plummer, who hit .500 by going 5-for-10.

Vanguard's Kelly led the league in strikeouts this week with 11. He's second in the league with 37 total strikeouts.



Kelly led Leesburg to a win on March 22, as he notched 11 strikeouts to beat the Knights, 2-1. Over his eight innings pitched he allowed one run on four hits.

Malachi Mitchell drove in four runners as Gainesville defeated White 16-5 on Monday. He went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.
