Baseball Game Preview: Foothill Falcons vs. California Grizzlies

The Foothill Falcons will face off against the California Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Foothill is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Foothill is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering De La Salle just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 5-4.

Foothill got a good showing from Charlie Stearns, who didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Stearns has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, George Schmitt made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as he's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiden Tavares, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for California's offense. They fell just short of Granada by a score of 1-0 on Friday. The Grizzlies just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Ryan Giffins was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over six innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

California's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Foothill, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.

Foothill skirted past California 6-4 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Does Foothill have another victory up their sleeve, or will California turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
