Softball Game Preview: Midway Raiders vs. Hoggard Vikings

Midway is on a five-game streak of home wins, while Hoggard is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Raiders will welcome the Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Midway 1.7, Hoggard 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Tuesday, Midway got the win against Fairmont by a conclusive 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won five games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, while Hoggard put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Topsail. The Vikings walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Pirates. The game was the first time the Vikings have beaten the Pirates on their field since April 27, 2021.

Macey Ciamillo was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Addison Wilson was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.

Hoggard is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Midway, their victory bumped their record up to 8-2.

Midway took their win against Hoggard in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Raiders repeat their success, or do the Vikings have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
