Basketball Recap: Key West Conchs vs. Marathon Dolphins

Key West was the 68-24 winner over Marathon when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Key West Conchs fell just short of the Marathon Dolphins by a score of 55-53 on Wednesday. The Conchs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Key West still got an impressive performance from Tramane Scott, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 13 boards. Scott is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was David Aviles, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Key West smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 28 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Marathon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carlos Lezcano, who went 6 for 8 en route to 16 points and four steals. Those 16 points gave Lezcano a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Daeshawn Holmes, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards.

Key West now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Marathon, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Key West will head out to face off against NSU University at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. NSU University knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Key West likes a good challenge. As for Marathon, they are taking a road trip to challenge Goleman at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Goleman is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.6 points per game this season.
