Softball Game Preview: Carlmont Scots vs. Capuchino Mustangs

Carlmont is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Capuchino is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Scots will host the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Carlmont didn't have quite enough to beat Woodside and fell 3-2.

Meanwhile, Capuchino won against Mills on Friday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over Aragon.

Lola Sierra spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.2 strikeouts per game.

At the plate, Star Gutierrez and Avery Motroni did most of the damage at the plate: Gutierrez went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI, while Motroni went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brianna Lopiccolo, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Capuchino hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.

Capuchino has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Carlmont, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.

Carlmont was able to grind out a solid victory over Capuchino in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-2. Will the Scots repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
