Volleyball Recap: St. John Paul II Catholic Starts Season with Loss at Home + How To Watch

St. John Paul II Catholic unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Scottsdale Preparatory Academy Spartans by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

St. John Paul II Catholic wouldn't go down easily and took Scottsdale Preparatory Academy into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. The final score came out to 25-23, 25-21, 22-25, 22-25, 17-15.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy was led to victory by Brielle Amarel and Guiliana Spencer. Amarel had 17 digs and four aces, while Spencer had 16 digs. That's the most aces Amarel has posted since back in October of 2024.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. John Paul II Catholic will host Heritage Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Scottsdale Preparatory Academy, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Veritas Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
