Soccer Game Preview: Amherst County vs. Staunton River

The Amherst County Lancers will head out to challenge the Staunton River Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Amherst County fell victim to Jefferson Forest and their airtight defense on Tuesday. They took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cavaliers. While losing is never fun, Amherst County can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Jefferson Forest are ranked 15th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Staunton River, who bounced back after a loss on the road on April 8th. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over William Byrd on Tuesday. Staunton River haven't had any issues with William Byrd recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Staunton River's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 12 goals over those three contests. As for Amherst County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-4.
