Falls Lake is a perfect 3-0 against Wake Prep Academy since March of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Firebirds will host the Guardians at 4:00 p.m. Falls Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Falls Lake fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Oxford Prep on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Griffins.
Falls Lake saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Watson, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Watson launched this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wake Prep Academy). They blew past Roxboro Community 20-1 on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Landon Latta was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Wake Prep Academy got a big performance out of Harrison Brown, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave Brown a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jakob Howell, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Wake Prep Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Wake Prep Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Falls Lake, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Falls Lake has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wake Prep Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Falls Lake's way against Wake Prep Academy in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Falls Lake made off with a 12-3 win. Do the Firebirds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Guardians turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
