Basketball Recap: Salome Takes a Loss

Salome's tournament run continued when they took on St. John Paul II Catholic on Saturday. The Salome Frogs were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 38-37 to the St. John Paul II Catholic Lions. The Frogs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Salome's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Myranda Cruz, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 12 points and three steals. Cruz is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Brianna Thomas was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Sofia Cervantes was the offensive standout of the match as she posted 17 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of St. John Paul II Catholic's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Contreras, who had ten points.

Salome now has a losing record at 5-6. As for St. John Paul II Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Salome wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 54-43 defeat against Phoenix Christian on the 4th. As for St. John Paul II Catholic, they will host North Valley Christian Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
