Volleyball Recap: Manvel Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Sami Guikema and Hayden Urban

If Manvel was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Alvin last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mavericks fell just short of the Dawson Eagles by a score of 3-2 on Friday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

Manvel started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 19-25, 17-25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-9.

Despite the loss, Manvel had strong showings from Hayden Urban, who had 11 assists and eight digs, and Sami Guikema, who had eight digs and two aces. Guikema has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last three times she's played. Amaria Lopez also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

With the defeat, Manvel broke their four-match winning streak and moved their record to 28-11. As for Dawson, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 36-4.

Manvel wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-1 win against Shadow Creek on the 27th. As for Dawson, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 victory against Friendswood on the 27th.
