Softball Game Preview: Belfast Lions vs. Cony Rams

The Belfast Lions will take on the Cony Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Belfast 1.7, Cony 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Cony will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Belfast extended their winning streak to five on Wednesday. The Lions came out on top against Nokomis by a score of 6-1. Six seems to be a good number for the Lions as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Jordyn MacKay spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Katience Parenteau was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Danica Gray, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cony, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Waterville on Wednesday as they made off with a 15-1 victory. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by nine runs or more this season.

Belfast's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Cony, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season.
