Softball Recap: Union County Patriots vs. Franklin County Wildcats
Union County had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-5 to make it six. They came up short against the Franklin County Wildcats, falling 18-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 on Saturday.
Union County saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braylen Rudnick, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Addison Shepler, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
As for Franklin County, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12.5 runs.
On Franklin County's side, Bailey Kaiser was incredible, firing off two home runs, nine RBI, and four runs while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave Kaiser a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Annie Hoff, who went 3-for-5 with four runs, three RBI, and one double.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union County will square off against Knightstown at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.67 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Franklin County, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against East Central at 5:00 p.m. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Trojans have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games.
