The Otto-Eldred Terrors will square off against the Port Allegany Gators at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Otto-Eldred is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
While Otto-Eldred's victory against Northern Potter wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Terrors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Panthers on Tuesday. The Terrors haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.
The team relied heavily on Manning Splain, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Landon Francis was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Port Allegany strolled into their game last Monday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Everything went their way against Cameron County as they made off with a 13-3 win. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by eight runs or more this season.
Nicholas Wilfong was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.4 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Tyler Fillhart and Levi Howard did most of the damage at the plate: Fillhart went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Howard went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most stolen bases Fillhart has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tayton Roys, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Port Allegany always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cameron County only posted an OBP of .360.
Port Allegany pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Otto-Eldred, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Otto-Eldred has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Port Allegany struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Otto-Eldred couldn't quite get it done against Port Allegany in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can the Terrors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
