Baseball Recap: Botkins Takes a Loss

If Botkins was feeling good fresh off their 13-3 takedown of Cory-Rawson on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Trojans fell just short of the Jackson Center Tigers by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The defeat continues a trend for the Trojans in their meetings with the Tigers: they've now lost three in a row.

Quinn Koenig spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Botkins' success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 4-1 (and 3-10 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Hudson Meyer made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI. Treg Meyer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Botkins' loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Jackson Center, their victory bumped their record up to 6-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Botkins will venture away from home to challenge New Knoxville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Rangers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.64 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Jackson Center, they will face off against National Trail at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games the Blazers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
