Baseball Game Preview: Ponte Vedra Sharks vs. Baker County Wildcats

The Ponte Vedra Sharks will take on the Baker County Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ponte Vedra is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Ponte Vedra lost 10-3 to St. Joseph Academy on Wednesday.

Storm Lickliter was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Rambler, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, everything went Baker County's way against Bradford on Tuesday as Baker County made off with a 9-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Baker County let Reese Taylor and Wesley Crockett run wild. Taylor scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3, while Crockett scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-4. Crockett also scored two runs, which is notable because Baker County is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Seth Chestnut, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.

Ponte Vedra's loss dropped their record down to 5-5. As for Baker County, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ponte Vedra has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Baker County struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Ponte Vedra came out on top in a nail-biter against Baker County in their previous meeting back in March of 2017, sneaking past 3-1. Does Ponte Vedra have another victory up their sleeve, or will Baker County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
