Some big news heading into the holiday weekend dropped late Friday as MaxPreps 2016-17 National Freshman of the Year Kyree Walker delivered a surprise pledge to Arizona State.

Scout.com was the first to report the development.
A 6-foot-6 wing, Walker averaged 21.3 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game last winter for Moreau Catholic (Hayward, Calif.). The Mariners went 25-10 and reached the Division II state title game, where he put up 28 points and 10 rebounds in a loss.

In late May, Walker announced he would be leaving Moreau Catholic to continue his career at Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.).

247Sports reports offers from Arizona, Grand Canyon, St. John's and USC in addition to Arizona State.

Walker is believed to be the first verbal commitment in high school basketball's Class of 2020.
After putting up over 20 points per game as a freshman at Moreau Catholic, Kyree Walker will continue his career at a prep school in Arizona.
