Preview: Hanover Central Wildcats vs. 21st Century Charter COUGARS
The Hanover Central Wildcats will be home for the holidays to greet the 21st Century Charter COUGARS at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Hanover Central put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Whiting 71-34 at home. That looming 71-34 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Hanover Central yet this season.
Hanover Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Luke Ondo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Gage Rodriguez was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, 21st Century Charter's 22-7 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They fell just short of Hammond Central by a score of 74-72. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Tuesday (64), 21st Century Charter still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, 21st Century Charter had strong showings from Ron Mosely, who scored 24 points along with four steals, and Terrence Hayes, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. The game was Hayes' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lemetrius "Meachy" Williams, who scored six points along with 15 rebounds and six assists.
Even though they lost, 21st Century Charter were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Hanover Central's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for 21st Century Charter, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
