Basketball Game Preview: Vancleave Bulldogs vs. Gautier Gators

Vancleave is 1-7 against Gautier since November of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Vancleave Bulldogs will head out to challenge the Gautier Gators at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Vancleave is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 63 points two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Wayne County two weeks ago. They came up short against the War Eagles, falling 51-25. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 274th, while the War Eagles are ranked 119th).

Meanwhile, Gautier lost 65-44 to Daphne on Saturday.

Gautier now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Vancleave, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-12.

Vancleave and Gautier were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2024, but Vancleave came up empty-handed after a 39-38 loss. Can Vancleave avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
