Baseball Game Preview: O'Connor Eagles vs. Liberty Lions

The O'Connor Eagles will square off against the Liberty Lions at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (O'Connor has seven straight victories, Liberty has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Monday, O'Connor was able to grind out a solid win over Shadow Ridge, taking the game 8-5. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly three runs.

O'Connor got a great performance from Carter Daly as he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Daly has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, O'Connor let Brent Sollars and James Carr run wild. Sollars went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Carr scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Those two hits gave Sollars a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Xaevan Doucet, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

O'Connor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Liberty came up short against La Habra on Thursday and fell 8-5.

O'Connor's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.

O'Connor skirted past Liberty 2-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
