Baseball Recap: West Liberty-Salem Extends Winning Streak to Three

West Liberty-Salem put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past the Southeastern Local Trojans 11-1. That's more bragging rights for the Tigers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Isaac Sertell and Jake Evans made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Sertell struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Evans struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave Sertell a new career-high. At bat, Sertell scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Evans scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Evans is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Caleb Hershberger and Jeremiah Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Hershberger scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Johnson went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Hershberger has posted since back in April of 2024. Brodey Deam was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

West Liberty-Salem was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southeastern Local only posted a batting average of .095.

West Liberty-Salem's record is now 3-0. As for Southeastern Local, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

West Liberty-Salem wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-7 victory against Northwestern on the 12th. As for Southeastern Local, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-1 defeat against Tecumseh on the 12th.
