Limestone and Springfield are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Rockets will take on the Senators at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Limestone is coming into the match hot, having won their last seven games.
Limestone's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over Pontiac.
Not much got past Alec Williams, who gave up just five hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Pontiac off the board. Williams has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Gavin Klecker and Dylan Bitner did most of the damage at the plate: Klecker went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base, while Bitner went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Springfield's offense. They came up short against Jacksonville on Tuesday, falling 8-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Senators have suffered since April 26th.
Springfield saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Heyen, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.
Springfield's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 10-20. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the losses came by an average of only 2.6 runs. As for Limestone, their win bumped their record up to 21-12.
Limestone's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. The Rockets have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Springfield, though, as they've been averaging only 0.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Limestone continue to outrun the ball?
Limestone skirted past Springfield 2-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
