Softball Game Preview: Rosary Academy Royals vs. Coronado Cougars

The Rosary Academy Royals will take on the Coronado Cougars in a tournament on Friday. Rosary Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so Coronado's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Coronado will be up against a hot Rosary Academy team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Rosary Academy's pitchers stepped up to hand Clovis a 5-0 shutout on Thursday. That's two games straight that the Royals have won by exactly five runs.

Rosary Academy got a great performance from Daleah Cardenas as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Cardenas has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Rosary Academy let K'Lene Gutierrez and Jenna Caldera run wild. Gutierrez scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Caldera went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple. Domonique McCoy also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Rosary Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Coronado came up short against Tournament Opponent on Thursday, falling 9-1.

Coronado now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Rosary Academy, their record is now 8-1.
