Softball Recap: Rock Hill Find Success

Rock Hill proved they can win big last Monday (they won by 16) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Plano West Wolves 3-1.

Madilynn Grossman made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Grossman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Aliyana Sanchez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Lilly Kroll also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Rock Hill hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive games.

Rock Hill has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. Plano West's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.

Looking ahead, Rock Hill will take on Prosper at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Prosper's pitching crew has only allowed 2.4 runs per game this season, so Rock Hill's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Plano West, they will be playing at home against Rockwall-Heath at 12:00 p.m. on Friday.
