Baseball Recap: Escalon Has No Trouble Against Ripon

Escalon hadn't done well against Ripon recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Cougars were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Indians. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 7-3 win the Indians walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Brody Abbott made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Fiori, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Escalon is undefeated when Fiori posts two or more runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Dylan Ball, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

The victory snapped Escalon's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-9 record. As for Ripon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-11.

Coming up, Escalon will be playing in front of their home fans against Orestimba at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ripon, they will head out on the road to square off against Edison at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
