Recap: Alton Redbirds vs. Belleville East Lancers
The Alton Redbirds put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Belleville East 66-15 on the road. Given Alton's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Belleville East is ranked 450th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Alton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jarius Powers out in front who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiyoko Proctor, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Alton's victory bumped their record up to 9-0. As for Belleville East, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.
Alton's road trip will continue as they head out to face Peoria Notre Dame at 3:30 p.m. on December 16th. Peoria Notre Dame is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Belleville East will be home for the holidays to greet Granite City at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
