Softball Game Preview: Bishop Ludden Gaelic Knights vs. Port Byron Panthers

Bishop Ludden hasn't had much luck against Port Byron recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Gaelic Knights will square off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Bishop Ludden has given up an average of 17.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Bishop Ludden is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They came up short against Cato-Meridian, falling 19-4.

Meanwhile, Port Byron owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They came out on top against Weedsport by a score of 4-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Weedsport's batters probably weren't too happy with Jenna Jump, who pitched a no hitter and racked up 14 Ks (she gave up two walks). Those 14 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Jump.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cameryn Brundage, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Mills, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and one run.

Bishop Ludden's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Port Byron, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.

Bishop Ludden suffered a grim 24-2 defeat to Port Byron in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Gaelic Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
