Football Game Preview: Lake View Chiefs/Maidens vs. Burnet Bulldogs

The Lake View Chiefs/Maidens will square off against the Burnet Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake View knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Burnet likes a good challenge.

On Friday, Lake View came up short against Levelland and fell 40-33. The matchup marked the Chiefs/Maidens' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Lake View might have lost, but man, Izaiah Rios was a machine: he rushed for 119 yards and one TD, and also picked up 49 receiving yards and one touchdown. Rios' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 119 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Braylon White, who picked up 118 receiving yards and one score.

Meanwhile, Burnet was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 15-9 to Gatesville. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 500th, while the Hornets are ranked 222nd).

This is the second loss in a row for Burnet and nudges their season record down to 1-4. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 29 points in those games. As for Lake View, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Lake View took a serious blow against Burnet when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 57-14. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Bulldogs' Josiah Coronado, who rushed for 204 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry.
