Aurora West College Prep Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 25th straight loss dating back to last season. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-38 heartbreaker at the hands of the DMLK Panthers. One positive for the Spartans, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Despite the defeat, Aurora West College Prep Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Maria Gutierrez Benitez went 7 of 14 en route to 17 points and eight steals. That was a full 44.7% of Aurora West College Prep Academy's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Emily Mascorro Sliva, who put up 11 points.

Even though they lost, Aurora West College Prep Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Ashley Rodriguez had an outrageously good game for DMLK as she had 20 points. Another player making a difference was Tay Hugley, who posted eight points.

Aurora West College Prep Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for DMLK, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Aurora West College Prep Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 43-22 defeat against Stargate School on the 17th. As for DMLK, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 47-16 loss against Regis Groff on the 17th.
