Baseball Recap: Buford Comes Up Short

Buford extended their losing streak to six on Monday, dropping them down to 7-13. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the York Prep Patriots. The Yellow Jackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2025.

As for York Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-11-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.

For York Prep's part, Avery Williams made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Williams is becoming a predictor of York Prep's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 9-10-1 when he doesn't). Williams was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tristan Stroud, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lucas Hope, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

While Buford had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
