Basketball Game Preview: Fike Demons vs. Smithfield-Selma Spartans

Fike is a perfect 10-0 against Smithfield-Selma since January of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Fike Demons will be playing in front of their home fans against the Smithfield-Selma Spartans at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fike has 22 straight victories, Smithfield-Selma has 15 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Friday, Fike strolled past Hunt with points to spare, taking the game 65-48. Given the Demons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 55th, while the Warriors are ranked 321st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fike to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jamaria Freeman, who almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine boards. The matchup was Freeman's 17th in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jewel Brewington, who went 6-for-9 on her way to 18 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Fike smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Smithfield-Selma scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They had to suffer through a 61-33 loss at the hands of East Wake. The Spartans were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-10.

Fike pushed their record up to 22-0 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home. As for Smithfield-Selma, their loss dropped their record down to 1-20.

Everything came up roses for Fike against Smithfield-Selma in their previous meeting back in January, as the team secured a 67-19 victory. Does Fike have another victory up their sleeve, or will Smithfield-Selma turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
