Basketball Recap: Whiteland Drops Season-High Score on Martinsville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whiteland). They secured a 53-47 W over the Martinsville Artesians on Saturday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Warriors as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Whiteland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sam Roadruck, who went 5 for 10 on her way to 16 points. That's the most points Roadruck has posted since back in November of 2023. Bryanna Gillock was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Whiteland was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

When it comes to explaining why Martinsville lost, don't look at Ruby Murrell. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Mallery, who posted five points and five assists.

Whiteland's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-7. As for Martinsville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whiteland will take on Indian Creek in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Whiteland has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Martinsville and Center Grove will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
