Baseball Recap: Ludlow Takes a Loss

Ludlow had lost five straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 7-13 to make it six. They lost 9-3 to the Dixie Heights Colonels. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Ludlow saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miller Reed, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Jackson Mays was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.

As for Dixie Heights, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games.

On Dixie Heights' side, Ian Meyers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Owen Stulz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Dixie Heights: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 9-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Steczynski, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ludlow will challenge Holmes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Dixie Heights, they will take on St. Henry at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Colonels surely won't give up without a fight.
