Monte Vista had lost nine games straight , but after bumping their record up to 3-15 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Steele Canyon Cougars, sneaking past 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Monarchs have posted since April 18, 2024.

Tristan Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits.

On the hitting side, Antonio Mccomb was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Damian Ordaz, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

As for Steele Canyon, they dropped their record down to 6-12 with the loss, which was their seventh straight on the road. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only two runs.

On Steele Canyon's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caden Davey, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Austin Hall also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Monte Vista will have a chance to go back-to-back against Steele Canyon: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
