Softball Recap: Gates County Wins Going Away Against Tarboro

Gates County won against Tarboro last Tuesday with 19 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Gates County was the clear victor by a 19-3 margin over Tarboro. The Red Barons haven't had any issues with the Vikings recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Hailey Bauer made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, Kamryn Riddick was a standout: she scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Zoey Nowell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and one double.

Gates County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tarboro only posted a batting average of .125.

The victory got Gates County back to even at 6-6. As for Tarboro, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gates County will face off against North East Carolina Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North East Carolina Prep has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.89 runs per game on average), something Gates County will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Tarboro, they will square off against Perquimans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Perquimans will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Tarboro surely won't give up without a fight.
