The Schaumburg Saxons will square off against the Elk Grove Grenadiers at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Schaumburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Schaumburg gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over Wheeling.
Madison Linnemann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.
On the hitting side, Aubrey Kosek was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jordan Murtaugh, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.
Schaumburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Elk Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Conant. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Grenadiers have suffered since April 24, 2024.
Elk Grove also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Brianna Magner gave up three earned runs on seven hits and racked up six Ks. Magner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kaitlin Wirtz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Schaumburg's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Elk Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-8.
