Baseball Game Preview: Union Pines Vikings vs. Southern Lee Cavaliers

For the second straight game, Union Pines will face off against Southern Lee. The Vikings will challenge the Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Union Pines fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Southern Lee on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Vikings have suffered against the Cavaliers since April 12, 2022.

For Southern Lee's part, Ben Harrington was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Harrington has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Michael Blanks was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

Union Pines moved to 6-9 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Southern Lee, their record is now 11-5.
