Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Prep Takes a Loss

If Cornerstone Prep was feeling good fresh off their 64-30 takedown of Westmoreland Christian Academy back in December of 2024, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cornerstone Prep took a 58-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jefferson County Christian Royals on Thursday. Cornerstone Prep has struggled against Jefferson County Christian recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Jefferson County Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Mark Jenkins out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Jenkins is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Lee Gump was another key player, going 6 for 9 on his way to 17 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Cornerstone Prep's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Jefferson County Christian, they pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season.

Cornerstone Prep will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Westmoreland Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. As for Jefferson County Christian, they will venture away from home to face off against Portersville Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
