Preview: Somersworth Toppers vs. Newfound Regional Bears
Somersworth is 2-0 against Newfound Regional since October of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Somersworth Toppers will head out on the road to face off against the Newfound Regional Bears at 2:00 p.m. Somersworth will be strutting in after a victory while Newfound Regional will be coming in after a loss.
Last Thursday, Somersworth humbled Bishop Brady with a 41-6 victory. The result was nothing new for Somersworth, who have now won four games by 35 points or more so far this season.
Tayshawn Sheppard continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 222 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Sheppard's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards. Another player making a difference was Lukas Kelly, who rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Newfound Regional, who are still winless after their fifth matchup. They were dealt a 49-0 loss at the hands of Raymond on Friday.
Somersworth's victory was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 4-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.8 points per game. As for Newfound Regional, their loss dropped their record down to 0-5.
Everything came up roses for Somersworth against Newfound Regional when the teams last played back in September of 2022 as the team secured a 47-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Somersworth since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
