Baseball Recap: Kenai Central Falls Short Against Ranked Soldotna

Kenai Central faced Soldotna in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Kardinals fell 7-4 to the Stars. The Kardinals were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Stars earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Kenai Central got a good showing from Jacob Katzenberger, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Kenai Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Logan Mese, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Garrett McCanna also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Kenai Central and nudges their season record down to 5-3. As for Soldotna, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-9-2.

Coincidentally, Kenai Central and Soldotna will both be playing Homer the next time they take the field. The Stars will head out to face the Mariners at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Kardinals will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
