The Hurricane Redskins will square off against the Cabell Midland Knights at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Hurricane's win against Spring Valley wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Redskins sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Timberwolves on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Redskins in their matchups with the Timberwolves: they've now won four in a row.
Kate Justice looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 23 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaden Jones, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Cabell Midland came tearing into Wednesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Redskins a 2-0 shutout.
The result came thanks to Audrea Watts's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 14 Ks.
At the plate, Cabell Midland let Becca Conrad and Nicole Harris run wild. Conrad went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Harris went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
Cabell Midland's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 23-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for Hurricane, their win bumped their record up to 22-5.
Hurricane couldn't quite finish off Cabell Midland when the teams last played on Wednesday and fell 2-0. Can the Redskins avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
