Rio Grande City is 8-2 against Martin since December of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Rio Grande City Rattlers will be playing at home against the Martin Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Both have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Rio Grande City and five for Martin.

Last Tuesday, Rio Grande City lost to Palmview on the road by a 50-33 margin. While losing is never fun, the Rattlers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 828th, while the Lobos are ranked 330th).

Meanwhile, Martin suffered their closest loss since November 9th on Tuesday. They fell just short of Cigarroa by a score of 37-35.

Defeat or not, Martin got some senior leadership from Maria Manrique and Rochelle Cranston. Manrique went 5 of 11 en route to 11 points, while Cranston posted eight points. Those 11 points gave Manrique a new career-high.

Rio Grande City's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Martin, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-10.

Rio Grande City didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Martin when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 33-29 victory. Will Rio Grande City repeat their success, or does Martin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
