The Harford Tech Cobras will head out on the road to face off against the Havre de Grace Warriors at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Harford Tech has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with six straight defeats, while Havre de Grace will come in with four straight victories.
Things were looking good for Harford Tech after they put the first runs on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of C. Milton Wright.
Mikayla McJilton was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. McJilton was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lyric Strong was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Havre de Grace got the win against Edgewood on Thursday by a conclusive 15-5. Considering the Warriors have won six games by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Havre de Grace got a massive performance out of Sarah Weitzel, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Weitzel also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Taylor Martinovich was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Havre de Grace was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .552. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Havre de Grace's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Harford Tech, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Harford Tech hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Havre de Grace struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Harford Tech came up short against Havre de Grace when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 6-2. Can the Cobras avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
