Softball Game Preview: Dirigo Cougars vs. Madison Bulldogs

Dirigo is 2-7 against Madison since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cougars will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.

Madison will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Dirigo extended their winning streak to three on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitchers stepped up to hand Waterville a 16-0 shutout. Considering the Cougars have won three games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Madison). They blew past Winthrop 16-10 on Wednesday. The Bulldogs not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 29, 2024 (when they won 13-3).

Dirigo pushed their record up to 3-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.7 runs over those games. As for Madison, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Dirigo took their victory against Madison in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 17-6 score. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
