Venice has gone 9-1 against University recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Gondoliers will challenge the Wildcats at 2:30 p.m. Venice's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so University's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Venice's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when El Segundo hitters got past them. The Gondoliers lost 15-3 to the Eagles on Monday. The Gondoliers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Venice saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abigail Acensio, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, the third road game was the charm for University, as they earned their first away victory of the season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Westchester a 5-0 shutout last Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Comets: they've now won three in a row.
Kayla Anzora was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kayla Carpenter, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
The victory got University back to even at 4-4. As for Venice, the defeat was their first on the road , dropping their record down to 11-2.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Venice has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .517. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
