Soccer Game Preview: Ridgewood vs. Kearny

The Ridgewood Maroons will take on the Kearny Kardinals on Saturday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Ridgewood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They never let Hackensack get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. Ridgewood might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by four goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kearny). They put the hurt on Memorial with a sharp 11-0 victory on Wednesday. Given Kearny's advantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey soccer rankings (they are ranked 55th, while Memorial are ranked 235th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Ridgewood has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 19 goals over those four matchups. As for Kearny, they now have a winning record of 6-5-2.

Ridgewood beat Kearny by a goal in their previous matchup back in November of 2022, winning 2-1. Do the Maroons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Kardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
