Baseball Recap: Calvert Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Calvert had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Gibsonburg on Wednesday. The Senecas put the hurt on the Golden Bears with a sharp 13-3 victory. The Senecas haven't had any issues with the Golden Bears recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Logan Ritzler made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Ritzler wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Moyer, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave Moyer a new career-high.

Calvert pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Gibsonburg, they moved to 8-4 with that loss, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, Calvert and Gibsonburg will both be playing Hopewell-Loudon the next time they take the field. The Golden Bears will head out to face the Chieftains at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Senecas will host them at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
