Burgettstown and Fort Cherry are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Blue Devils will be playing at home against the Rangers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Burgettstown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Burgettstown is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering McGuffey just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 5-2 to the Highlanders.
Sam Elich was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Fort Cherry waltzed into their game on Friday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 12-2 win. Considering the Rangers have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Colton Temple made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Temple was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Landon Trnavsky was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tyler Wolfe, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Fort Cherry's victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Burgettstown, their loss dropped their record down to 11-2.
Burgettstown was able to grind out a solid victory over Fort Cherry when the teams last played back in March of 2023, winning 11-7. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Rangers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
