Baseball Game Preview: Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals vs. Shelbyville Rams

Warrensburg-Latham hasn't had much luck against Shelbyville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cardinals will look to defend their home field against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Warrensburg-Latham will be looking to extend their current 13-game winning streak.

Warrensburg-Latham proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Taylorville 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cardinals have posted since March 25th.

The team relied heavily on Nathan Southern, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with three RBI and two runs. Those five hits gave him a new career-high. Kristopher Lawson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 24 runs the game before, Shelbyville was a bit more limited in their contest on Thursday. They came up short against Vandalia, falling 11-1.

Warrensburg-Latham's victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Shelbyville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-4 record this season.
