Basketball Recap: Pine Ridge Comes Up Short

Pine Ridge fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Sioux Valley on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cossacks by a score of 72-69. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Thorpes have suffered since December 11, 2025.

Despite the loss, Pine Ridge still got an impressive performance from Marvin Richard III C, who shot 40% from the field en route to 24 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That was a full 34.8% of the Thorpes' points, marking the eighth time in a row Richard III C has posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Donnie Ghostdog, who had 12 points.

The defeat snapped Pine Ridge's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-6 record. As for Sioux Valley, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Pine Ridge has already played their next matchup (against Little Wound), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Sioux Valley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 75-44 win against Chester on the 20th.
